Presidential Debate
St. Louis
It might be due to the fact that I am a lazy teenager, or it might be that it was assigned as homework, but I didn't watch the first presidential debate or the VP debate. I saw about ten minutes of the first debate, enough to see just how stupid Kerry opposers can be (In regards to his addressing whether it was a good idea to invade Iraq or not, a certain Bush-supporter I know pointed out some fallic flip-flop), but I didn't feel the need to watch one until tonight. Even then, it was only because I had nothing else to do and I had been eating sugar, so there you go.
Despite it all, I probably still only saw about twenty or so minutes of the debate tonight, but it was enough to reassure myself of why I would be voting for Kerry if I could, and not only because he can read (Did anyone else think it looked like Bush was drawing?). Kerry certainly did his supporters proud, being direct and clear in his arguments and finally getting vaguely around to what he actually planned to do. Kerry is a very good public speaker, but unfortunately I doubt if that's going to make a difference, as no matter how good he gets in these debates, he probably won't aim for much higher than this. Even with all of his bad points, which thank God were hardely apparent in the crossfire, I'm willing to overlook them and involve myself in an election.
The ten minutes of the first debate that I saw were some of the worst for Bush, being the ten minutes in which he stuttered out his ass and made the infamous, 'Well, actually, he forgot Poland,' statement. I admit he did better this time and was definitely more confident and composed, but my dad and I still laughed at him. We laughed heartily. We laughed when he stressed yet again his meetings with foreign leaders, and yet never stressed how this was going to effect the war. We laughed when he talked about his 'plan' for Iraq, and failed to make notice of how poorly this 'plan' is going. We laughed when he admitted how inane the claims that Saddam had nuclear weapons, and yet still tried to defend it. And on and on it goes, and we just kept laughing every time that sad, sad little man opened his mouth. At the end of it all, I honestly can't understand why anyone would find Bush so capable as to support him. I guess I just can't comprehend that level of shiny naivety.
Here's looking at you, Kerry. Keep fighting the good fight.
